Sulawesi island Indonesia

Sulawesi is among the four major Sunda Islands that are located in Indonesia and lies between the Borneo and the Maluku Islands. In the overall Indonesia, just the Borneo, Sumatra, and Papua are the larger as per the area of territory. The island of Sulawesi is believed to be formed by the collision of terranes from the Asian Plate that formed the west and southwest region of the island, from the Australian Plate that formed southeast and Banggai, and from the island arcs that was initially in the Pacific and formed the north and east peninsulas.

Like other cities, islands, and other destinations, the Sulawesi Island also boasts deep history. It is the 11th largest island in the world that covers 174,600 square kilometers of area. The island is encircled by the Borneo towards the west, Philippines towards the north, Maluku towards the east, and Flores and Timor towards the south. The island got a unique shape due to the four large peninsulas named as Semenanjung Minahassa, South Peninsula, East Peninsula, and Southeast Peninsula. Today, this island is a major tourist destination that offers spectacular natural beauty to its visitors. Tourists from all over the world throng at this island just to spend a perfect and memorable vacation for the lifetime.
